Basics

Do I need an account?

No. sharepot works entirely without sign-up – open the app, create a pot, go.

What's free and what's Pro?

Free: up to 3 pots, equal splitting, live sync, settling up and payments. Sharepot Pro adds: unlimited pots, uneven splitting (percent, exact amounts, shares), statistics, budget, recurring expenses, receipt scanner (iPhone only), PDF/CSV export, custom categories, and sharing your own payment methods.

I can't find a feature.

Simple mode is probably on – it deliberately keeps the app lean. Switch to “Advanced” via the gear icon in your profile and every feature becomes visible.

What does the widget do?

The widget is available on iPhone only. Put the sharepot widget on your Home Screen. The small one shows a pot, and a tap takes you straight to adding an expense. The medium one has its own buttons: expense always, payment from two members up, plus the receipt scanner if you have Pro, “Advanced” mode is on and your device has a camera. Press and hold the widget and choose Edit Widget to pin it to a specific pot; without a choice it shows the one you opened last. Several widgets can be stacked and swiped through. The widget deliberately shows no amounts, only the pot name.

What does pressing and holding the app icon do?

This menu exists on iPhone only. It opens a small menu with “New expense” and, as soon as one of your pots has at least two members, “Record payment”. Both land in the pot you opened last; if you haven’t opened one yet, in the one you created last. The pot name deliberately stays out of the menu so nothing on your Home Screen gives you away. If you want a fixed target, use the widget: there you can pin a specific pot.

Can I add expenses on the Apple Watch?

Yes. The sharepot app for Apple Watch takes three steps: pick a pot, set the amount with the crown or the number pad, tap or dictate a title. The expense is split evenly across all members and you are the payer by default – both can be changed on the iPhone at any time. If your iPhone isn’t with you, the expense waits on the watch and goes out as soon as the two are connected again. The watch app costs nothing extra. There is no watch app for Android.

Are there differences between iPhone and Android?

Almost none – pots, splitting, live sync, settling up, payment methods, statistics, budget, recurring expenses, export and every Pro feature are the same on both platforms, and the two work together in the same shared pot. Only three things are iPhone-only so far: the receipt scanner, the Home Screen widget and the Apple Watch app.

Sharing pots & live sync

How do I join a shared pot?

Open the invitation link or scan a member's QR code – or enter the join code in the app. Then pick your name under “That's me” if the group has already added you.

The invitation link doesn't open the app.

If the link only opens a web page, you'll find the join code there: type it into the app. Also make sure sharepot is installed on the device.

I appear twice in the pot.

When joining, pick your existing name under “That's me” instead of creating a new one. An accidental duplicate can be deleted in the pot info.

Changes don't reach everyone.

Live sync needs internet on both sides. Open the app briefly – it catches up on launch, then changes arrive live. Otherwise check in the pot info that “Share online” is on.

Who can see my data?

Only people who have a pot's invitation link or code. Local (unshared) pots never leave your device. So share invitations only with your group. Your payment methods are additionally end-to-end encrypted and readable only by the members you select. Write protection for pots and entries only governs who may change something – everything stays visible to all members.

Can I stop others from changing the pot?

Yes. Whoever creates and shares a pot is its creator and finds the “Lock pot” switch in the pot info. When it is on, invited members can no longer change or delete the pot settings or other people’s entries – but they can still edit their own expenses. Anyone may leave the pot for themselves at any time. Note: the protection works inside the app and guards against accidental changes, but it is not a security lock – only share invite links with people you trust.

Expenses & splitting

Can I split unevenly?

Yes, with Sharepot Pro: by percent, exact amounts, or shares (e.g. a couple counts double). Switch the mode under “For whom” when adding an expense.

Can I add an expense in another currency?

Yes – just pick the foreign currency when adding it. sharepot converts to the pot currency at the current rate and locks that rate for the expense; you can adjust it before saving.

How do I edit or delete an expense?

Tap the expense in the feed to edit it. To delete, swipe across the expense in the list. Protected entries cannot be edited or deleted – they show a lock.

How do I protect my own expense from changes?

Open the expense and turn on “Only I can edit”. After that nobody else can edit or delete it – not even the pot’s creator. A green lock marks your own protected entries, a grey one those locked for you. Payments work the same way via the lock on the payment card.

The receipt scanner reads the amount or date wrong.

The receipt scanner is available on iPhone only. Photograph the receipt as straight and well-lit as possible. Recognition runs entirely on your device, and you can correct all captured values before saving.

Why do I see recurring expenses on one device only?

The templates (e.g. “rent, monthly”) deliberately live only on the device that created them. The expenses they generate sync normally with the shared pot.

Settling up & payments

How are the settlement suggestions calculated?

sharepot nets all balances and suggests as few transfers as possible – not everyone pays everyone, only what's needed.

“Mark as paid” vs. “Record payment” – what's the difference?

“Mark as paid” settles a suggested transfer in full. “Record payment” (long-press the plus button) logs any direct or partial payment between two members.

The banking QR doesn't work with my bank.

The code is an EPC credit-transfer QR that most banking apps in the euro area can read. If yours doesn't, simply make a normal transfer to the IBAN shown.

Who can see my payment methods?

Only the members you release them to. The transfer is end-to-end encrypted – the server and all other members can't read them. You can withdraw a release per member at any time; with automatic sharing it applies to all current and future members of the pot.

Sharepot Pro

What does Sharepot Pro cost?

€9.99 per year – with the first week free to try – or a one-time €24.99. Prices may vary by country.

How do I cancel the trial or subscription?

Not with us, but in the store: on iPhone under Settings → your name → Subscriptions, on Android in the Play Store under profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, otherwise the subscription renews automatically.

How do I move Sharepot Pro to a new device?

Pro belongs to your store account, not to the device: your Apple ID on iPhone, your Google account on Android. Sign in on the new device with the same account, open the Sharepot Pro page in your profile and tap “Restore purchases”. Moving from iPhone to Android (or the other way round) does not carry the purchase over, though – the two stores know nothing about each other.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases and subscriptions run entirely through the store. With Apple you request a refund with your Apple ID at reportaproblem.apple.com, with Google via your order history in the Play Store. We can neither charge nor refund.

Data & privacy

How do I delete my data?

Local pots live only on your device – deleting the pot or the app is enough. A shared pot can be deleted “just for me” or “for everyone”; content deleted from the server is permanently removed after 90 days at the latest. See the privacy policy for details.

New device – are my pots gone?

No, if you set the new device up the usual way: iCloud backup or device transfer on iPhone, Google backup or data transfer on Android – all pots come along. Without a backup, a member can simply invite you into the shared pot again; local pots cannot be restored then – export them as PDF or CSV beforehand if they matter. Switching between iPhone and Android has no automatic transfer: get shared pots back via the invitation link, and export local ones first.
